We Are Sofia Eagles

Sofia Eagles project was initiated in 2023, as part of EuroSpeed’s ESG strategic development. The Bulgarian logistics brand outlined the following goal for it:

Increase Basketball popularity in Bulgaria among children
Get more children involved in an active lifestyle
Involvement of the company in the local community

Team’s organizational structure is based on top tier European counterparts, with its innovative talent development program being a hybrid between the two most successful programs on the continent for the past decade. The leadership team includes coaching staff with extensive experience with young players and FIBA Europe Coaching Certificate (FECC) graduates.

Our formations have the opportunity to use 6 indoor courts at two locations. Each court contains 6 independent full scale baskets and certified hardwood floors of top quality.

GSA is the official gear partner of the team. The company is responsible for supplying all sportswear for Turkish Airlines EuroLeague teams of Olympiacos and Žalgiris. GSA produces top quality basketball products and maintains minimal carbon footprint among all of its operations, with a pledge in place to reach net zero operations.

Mission and Goals

According to NCAA’s most recent data, there were 4666 men’s basketball players and 4943 women’s basketball players. International students accounted for just below 14% of that total.*

For the 2022/2023 season, NBA rosters feature 120 international players out of 450. There are 5 current players from Serbia, while Montenegro and Lithuania are contributing with 2 representatives each.**

The average Turkish Airlines EuroLeague popularity rating is up by 22% year over year and season 2023/2024 will feature official broadcast of the games in USA and Canada.***

We strive to provide overall preparation for our young talents on the demands of today's top level basketball, while developing their individual abilities to the fullest.

For the upcoming years, our goal is to recruit and develop players from Bulgaria that will become part of the youth national team formations and top basketball championships in the world.

Coaching Staff

The coaching staff of the club is led by Hristo Tsenov and Teddy Bukov. Both of them are certificated with The FIBA Europe Coaching Certificate (FECC) program combined with their experience with young players provides the ideal opportunity for the development of each child.

The FIBA Europe Coaching Certificate program has established itself as one of the most prestigious coaching programs in European sport and more specifically in the preparation and development of coaches involved with adolescents.

The FECC offers coaches from Europe and around the world the unique opportunity to learn from some of the best in the business. The certificate focuses on the areas which are important in the identification and development of young talent. Coaches have the opportunity to spend time in the gym watching games while also participate in discussion groups and attend workshops, all under the watchful eye of the FECC Project Group which includes for example Svetislav Pesic, Pablo Laso, Andrea Trinchieri, Pedro Martinez, Gordon Herbert and Marina Maljkovic as well as other external experts in the fields of strength & conditioning; nutrition; officiating; anti-doping; injury prevention; psychology; pedagogics and didactics.
